Title | Gerstleyite and probertite from Kern County, California |
Description | This sample is 8 cm across. Much of it is probertite [NaCaB5O7(OH)4·3H2O], a borate mineral that in this sample forms radiating blades (lower left end of specimen) and a white crust. It may also form as extremely delicate, bright white, acicular balls. Minor reddish-brown gerstleyite [Na2(Sb,As)8S13·2H2O] is also present. Both minerals crystallized in a grayish clay matrix. This sample comes from the Baker Mine, Kramer district, Kern County, CA, a locality known for a number of relatively rare minerals. |
