Description | The brownish material is barite (BaSO4) stained by iron oxide and the purple is fluorite (CaF2). Both minerals commonly precipitate (typically on surfaces, in vugs or in cracks) from flowing groundwaters, and so can be found together as in this sample. This specimen is about 8 cm across. |
