Description | Pyroxenites are ultramafic plutonic rocks dominated by pyroxene. Other minerals present may include hornblende, biotite or olivine. This sample contains highly altered coarse brown pyroxene (now mostly chlorite) and lesser amounts of lighter colored plagioclase. It is about 8 cm across. |
