Title | Tuff, Pima County, Arizona |
Description | This is a sample of tuff from near Tucson, Arizona, USA. Tuff is a general term for a compacted deposit of volcanic ash and dust, occasionally containing larger fragments (seen in this photo). The layering resulted from different layers of ash being deposited. In thin section, quartz and plagioclase are visible, and a few highly altered grains appear once to have been K-feldspar. This specimen is about 9 cm across. |
