Description | Most of this sample is white calcite, CaCO3. The light brown to gray mineral is chondrodite, (Mg,Fe)5(SiO4)2(F,OH)2, but chondrodite usually has a more yellowish color. Chondrodite belongs to the humite group, and is closely related to olivine. Also present are graphite and a white mica, but they can only be seen in the highest resolution photo. This sample measures approximately 10 cm across. |
