DescriptionThis earthy, pisolitic, buff to dark brown rock is a typical example of bauxite, a mixture of aluminum oxide and hydroxide minerals. The pisolites (the rounded red-brown features) in bauxites commonly show color zoning, as can be seen here. This sample is 10 cm across.
