DescriptionThis sample of limonite formed as a nodule in iron formation in Minnesota's Iron Range (the Mesabi Range), near Hibbing. Limonite is not a true mineral but is a mixture of hydrated iron oxide minerals, most importantly goethite. This specimen is about 12 cm in longest dimension.
