Description | They gray mineral is nickel-bearing cobaltite, CoAsS (cobalt arsenic sulfide). It occurs in high temperature hydrothermal ore deposits, in veins and in contact metamorphic deposits. The sample also contains quartz and minor amounts of erythrite (hydrated cobalt arsenate, purplish and hard to pick out). Aothough rare, cobaltite can be an important ore mineral for cobalt. This sample is about 4 cm across. |
