TitleRhodochrosite, quartz and alabandite from Transylvania
DescriptionThe pink mineral in the vug is rhodocrosite, MnCO3 (manganese carbonate). It is surronded by gray quartz and black alabandite, MnS (manganese sulfied, on the edges of the specimen). Rhodocrosite and quartz are relatively common but alabandite is a rare mineral. This specimen is 8 cm across and comes from a manganese ore body.
LocationTransylvania. Near Nagyag.
