Description | The light colored mineral is quartz, the darker one is domeykite. Domeykite, Cu3As (copper arsenide), is a semi-metal alloy of copper and arsenic. It is found at several copper mines in Chile and in Michigan's Upper Penninsula (this sample) and is named for a nineteenth century Chilean mineralogist named Ignacio Domeyko. Domeykite is a minor copper ore mineral and is sometimes cut and polished to produce an unusual colored metallic gemstone. |
