Description | The copper colored mineral in this photo is nickeline, a nickel arsenide mineral having formula NiAs. The nickeline is mixed with some gray colored polydymite, Ni3S4, which is not easily seen unless the photo is enlarged. Also present are veins mostly made of green malachite, a copper carbonate hydroxide. The sample is about 9 cm across. It comes from a nickel mine in Nevada. |
