Description | These flakes of molybdinite are all about 1-2 cm across. They have a metallic silver color, but are very flexible - somewhat like a mica. Molybdenite, MoS2 (molybdenum disulfide), is typically blue-gray silver in color, with a metallic luster and greasy feel. It occurs in crystals of the hexagonal system, but most commonly just as flakes of indistinct symmetry or as disemminated grains in a massive rock. It occurs in granites, syenites, gneisses, and crystalline limestones. Molybdenite is an important ore of molybdenum. |
