| Description | Tremolite, Ca2Mg5Si8O22(OH)2 (calcium magnesium silicate hydroxide), is a common mineral in some metamorphic rocks. It is a member of the amphibole group and typically occurs when a sandy limestone or dolostone is metamorphosed. Tremolite, like other amphibole minerals, has good cleavage. It may break into splintery fragments such as the 14 cm long fragment shown here. |
