DescriptionCalcite (CaCO3) comes in many different varieties. It is generally identifiable by its rhomohedral cleavage, reaction to acid, hardness (3 on Moh's scale) and double refraction. Although most specimens are white or clear, color is highly variable. This hue of yellow is a relatively rare variety. The specimen is 10 cm across.
