DescriptionSmithsonite, ZnCO3 (zinc carbonate), comes in many different colors. The apple green to blue-green color is probably smithsonite's most well known color. The rarer purple to lavender samples are often quite spectacular. Smithsonite may also be yellow, white, tan, brown, blue, orange, peach, colorless, pink or red. Smithsonite is named for James Smithson, the founder of the Smithsonian Institution. This specimenis 7 cm across.
