TitleSelenite (gypsum) blade
DescriptionSelenite is a clear, generally colorless, variety of gypsum. Large selenite “sheets” are found in many places in Utah. Gypsum, CaSO4•2H2O, is a relatively common mineral that comes in many varieties. Selenite denotes the clear crystal variety. Alabaster is a name for granular, massive gypsum. Fibrous gypsum is called satin spar. This blade, really a cleavage fragment from a larger crystal, is 32 cm long.
