DescriptionThese calcite crystals are speckled with pyrite (FeS, iron sulfide). Calcite (CaCO3, calcium carbonate), which gets its name from “chalix” the Greek word for lime, is a common mineral. It has many appearances and is formed in many different geological environments. 4% of the earth's crust is calcite, most of it making up fine grained limestones.
