Description | This specimen of copper ore contains native copper (tarnished very dark reddish brown), green malachite (Cu2(CO3)(OH)2) and blue azurite (Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2). It is about 9 cm across. Native copper, while being an ideal ore mineral, is relatively rare. Most copper ores contain malachite, azurite, or any of a number of copper-bearing sulfide minerals. |
