Description | This is a slab (11 cm wide) of a fine grained sedimentary rock. Native copper (reddish, near top of photo) and native silver (small silvery near bottom left hand corner) were deposited on bedding planes by circulating ground waters. The sample comes from near White Pine, Michigan. Coppper was mined at White Pine in the mid 19th century. Silver was a valuable secondary product. |
