Title | Native copper, Calumet, Michigan |
Description | Copper, in its elemental form, was once an important ore, but today most native copper deposits have been mined out. Copper usually contains impurities, but can be found pure. Although native copper is generally found only in small quantities today, some places, such as the Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan, have produced spectacular samples in the past. Copper is usually dessiminated; well crystallized specimens such as the one shown are uncommon. This sample is 38 cm across. |
