| Title | Smithsonite and hydrozincite from Inyo County, California |
| Description | Smithsonite, ZnCO3 (zinc carbonate) can be just about any color and is often quite spectacular. Here it is nondescript gray. Smithsonite often grows in layers as it precipitates from water; it may have a botryoidal (grape-like) appearance. The white and yellow material in this specimen is hydrozincite, Zn5(CO3)2(OH)6 which is a hydrated equivalent of smithsonite. This specimen is 8 cm across. |
