DescriptionThe white mineral is artinite. Artinite, Mg2CO3(OH)2·3H2O (hydrated magnesium carbonate hydroxide), is a somewhat rare carbonate mineral. It forms in veins or as crusts associated with ultramafic igneous and metamorphic rocks including serpentinite. Fibrous, acicular and botryoidal habits are common. This specimen is 9 cm across.
