Title | Granite outcrop at Joshua Tree National Park, California |
Description | Joshua Tree National Park is well known for its spectacular granite outcrops surrounded by sandy desert. This photo shows a rock climber on a “whaleback” of 85 million year old White Tank Granite. This granite formed as an intrusion into the 1.7 billion year old Pinto gneiss. Subsequently, it was uplifted and erosion revealed it as we see it today. |
