Title | Rosasite and aurichalcite, Durango, Mexico |
Description | The blue-green mineral is aurichalcite (Zn,Cu)5(CO3)2(OH)6 (zinc copper carbonate hydroxide). Here it is associated with limonite (earthy red material) and rosasite, (Cu, Zn)2CO3(OH)2 (copper zinc carbonate hydroxide). The rosasite is the greener material in the center of the sample. These minerals form in the oxidation zones of zinc-copper deposits. They are often found as crusts, botryoidal masses or nodules. Crystals may also be fibrous and found in tufted aggregates. |
