| Title | Siderite and ankerite with quartz |
| Description | The white material in this sample is quartz; some of it has been stained reddish by iron oxide. The darker material is a mix of siderite, FeCO3 (iron carbonate), and ankerite, CaFe(CO3)2 (calcium-iron carbonate). The two minerals are hard to tell apart, having only slightly different colors in this 9 cam wide specimen. Although they contain iron, some samples of siderite and ankerite are white or even transparent. |
