Description | Dolomite crystals often have a beautiful pinkish color, pearly luster and unusual crystal habit that includes curved crystal faces. Samples such as this are sometimes called “pearl spar.” Although dolomite is a carbonate, it belongs in a different crystal class than calcite, the most common carbonate mineral. Dolomite generally forms more elongated crystals than calcite. This specimen is 8.5 cm across. |
