Description | The black mineral is vivianite. Earthy limonite and minor pyrite are also seen. Vivianite is a hydrated iron phosphate, Fe3(PO4)2·(H2O)8. When fresh it may be sparkly blue or green or clear, but it darkens and loses sparkle when exposed to light. This sample is about 10 cm across. |
