Description | Azurite, Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2, owes its name to its azure-blue color. It usually occurs with green malachite, Cu2(CO3)(OH)2. The two minerals often occur mixed together (this sample), forming what is called “azure-malachite” in the gem and mineral trades. Azurite and malachite are both valuable copper ore minerals. This specimen is 5 cm across. |
