Description | The dark mineral is cuprite, Cu2O (copper oxide). The green mineral is malachite, Cu2(CO3)(OH)2 (copper carbonate hydroxide), and the white mineral is quartz (SiO2). Cuprite and malachite are both copper ore minerals; cuprite is especially valuable because it it contains so much copper. This specimen is about 9 cm across. |
