Description | Malachite,Cu2(CO3)(OH)2, (copper carbonate hydroxide) is a green copper carbonate mineral. Here it has precipitated on top of brown dolomite. Malachite occurs naturally in many different habits, including botryoidal, stalactitic or globular (this sample). Often it shows concentric layers with light and dark green bands that give it a distinctive and unique appearance. This specimen is 8 cm across. |
