Title | Cross bedded Navajo Sandstone (Triassic - Jurassic) on the way to Grand View Point, near Moab, Utah, USA |
Description | The drive from US 191, north of Moab, across the Island in the Sky to Grand View Point is one of the most spectacular in Utah. Here we see an outcrop of the Navajo Sandstone which, on close examination, contains very large cross beds. The Navajo (Triassic - Jurassic) formed from sands deposited by wind in what was once a very large desert. We use the term aeolian to describe such sandstones. |
