Title | Chrysocolla from Ray, Arizona |
Description | Chrysocolla is a blue-green copper mineral. It is really a mineraloid, not a true mineral (because it does not have a fixed composition or structure). It is typically amorphous (does not have a coherent crystalline structure), but some high temperature specimens are somewhat crystalline, being composed of Si4O10 sheets. Chrysocolla forms in the oxidation zones of copper-rich ore bodies, where it is often found with other colorful copper minerals. This specimen is 12 cm across. |
