Title | Quartzite, from near Echo Lake, Ontario, Canada |
Description | This green quartzite is just about 100% quartz. It is unclear why the quartz has a green color. The small red grains seen in hand specimen look like garnets. In thin section they appear, instead, to be iron oxide staining associated with alteration of an unidentifiable mafic mineral. The field of view is about 3 cm across. |
