DescriptionTypical limestones are dominated by the mineral calcite, but many contain dolomite. When they are nearly 100% dolomite, they are often called dolostone (or dolomite) instead of limestone. This limestone from south-central Minnesota contains subequal amounts of calcite and dolomite. The sample is 9.5 cm across.
