| Description | Uvarovite is a calcium-chrome garnet. The vivid green color is typical. This specimen was split along a seam of uvarovite that is only about 1 mm thick. The dark host rock contains disseminated uvarovite, chromite, pyroxene and plagioclase, as well as some unidentified alteration material. This sample was purchased at a rock and mineral show and comes from an unknown location in Russia. It is about 8 cm across. |
