| Description | Cuprite, Cu2O, is a major ore of copper. Chalcotrichite is a fibrous variety of cuprite. The cuprite in this specimen is black, and the chalcotrichite is red; they are best seen by looking at the full size image. The yellowish grunge is a goethite-limonite mixture. Some samples of cuprite shows well-developed cubic crystal forms, and chalcotrichite can develop as needle-like splays. |
