Title | Franklinite, zincite, willemite and calcite from Franklin, New Jersey, USA |
Description | This specimen is from Franklin, New Jersey, a world famous locality that has produced many formerly unknown and exotic mineral species. It includes primarily black franklinite (zinc iron oxide), and red zincite (zinc oxide). Minor light green willemite (zinc silicate), and minor white calcite (calcium carbonate) are also present (but are hard to see; along the left edge of the sample). Franklin has historically been an important mining area, and three of these minerals are ore minerals of zinc. |
