DescriptionDeformed quartz vein, Barnhardt Canyon, Mazatzal Mountains, Arizona. The vein is approximately 100 feet long and makes an excellent example of a fold and thrust belt. Note that the rocks above and below this layer are shortened by folding (with steep axial surfaces) alone. Longitudinal strains in the folded and thrusted layers are approximately equal.
