DescriptionRed Rocks Canyon, just 15 minutes west of Las Vegas, provides spectacular views of red, yellow and white sandstones. The major formation is the Jurassic Navajo Sandstone, characterized in some places by massive cross beds formed when the sand was deposited in desert sand dunes. A rock climber, near the center of this photograph, provides scale.
