DescriptionThese samples from Franklin, New Jersey, USA are mostly brown hardystonite Ca2ZnSi2O7 with lighter colored veins of willemite, Zn2SiO4. Hardystonite is a rare mineral related to gehlenite. It is popular with museums and mineral collectors because it fluoresces dark purple under short-wave ultraviolet light. The smaller specimen is about 5 cm across.
