TitleChrysotile and asbestos
DescriptionChrysotile is a form of serpentine, a hydrous silicate of magnesium. It occurs in crystalline form only as a pseudomorph having the form of some other mineral and is generally found in the form of chrysotile (silky fibers), antigorite and lizardite. Chrysotile is also known as commercial asbestoswhic. This sample also contains asbestos. Asbestos is common name for any of a variety of silicate minerals within the amphibole and serpentine groups that are fibrous in structure and more or less resistant to acid and fire. Chrysotile asbestos, a form of serpentine, is the chief commercial asbestos. This hand sample is about 10 cm in length.
