Description | Macdonaldite is a silicate with the chemical formula BaCa4Si16O36(OH)2·10(H2O). Macdonaldite forms in sanbornite-bearing metamorphic rocks near a granodiorite contact. Macdonaldite is found in the Big Creek-Rush Creek area, Fresno Co., and on Trumbull Peak, near Incline, Mariposa Co., California, USA. It was named for Gordon Andrew Macdonald (1911-1978) an American volcanologist from the University of Hawaii. This sample is approximately 6 cm. |
