Title | Wulfenite with barite |
Description | Wulfenite is a lead molybdate. One interesting fact about wulfenite is that it is an enigma in terms of its symmetry. There are conflicting results of various symmetry tests. It is either a symmetry of 4 or 4/m. This sample is dominated by orange wulfenite, PbMoO4. Wulfenite is often accompanied by mimetite, limonite, smithsonite, vanadinite or galena. Here it is with white barite (BaSO4) and brown/orange material too fine grained to identify. Wulfenite was named after the Austrian mineralogist, F. X. Wulfen (1728-1805). |
