DescriptionSamarskite is a rare earth oxide mineral, (Y,Ce,U,Fe)3(Nb,Ta,Ti)5O16. It is found in rare-earth-rich granites and granitic pegmatites. Although it is slightly radioactive, samarskite is sometimes cut and polished as a gemstone. This sample is 6 cm across.
