TitleCarnotite
DescriptionCarnotite, K2(UO2)2(VO4)2-(H2O)1-3 is a radioactive mineral and an ore of uranium and vanadium. It typically forms as aggregates of sand sized yellow grains; less typically it forms platy/bladed crystals. Carnotite generally forms in areas where groundwater, after dissolving and oxidizing previously existing uranium minerals, encounters a reducing environment. It may be associated with petrified wood or other materials derived from organic matter.
