DescriptionHypersthene is a member of the Pyroxene Group. Its chemical formula is (Mg,Fe)SiO3. Hypersthene is a relatively common mineral and is found in igneous and some metamorphic rocks, as well as meteorites. The name comes from the Greek, hyper, meaning “above” and stenos, meaning “power”. This sample is about 4 cm.
