DescriptionAugite is a commonly occurring member of the pyroxene family. It has general chemical formula (Ca,Na)(Mg,Fe,Al)(Al,Si)2O6, but often contains other minor elements not reflected in this formula. Augite is an important rock-forming mineral in many igneous rocks, especially in gabbros and basalts. This speciman is about 3 cm across.
