Description | Salesite, a rare mineral containing iodine, has the formula Cu(IO3)(OH). Here we see salesite (the greenish mineral on the surface of an altered carbonate rich rock). The source of this sample is uncertain, but it comes from Chile, perhaps from the Chuquicamata mining district (one of the few places where salesite is found). This sample is about 8 cm across. |
