TitleCorundum
DescriptionCorundum, Al2O3 (aluminum oxide), is one of the hardest minerals. It is used as an abrasive and when gemmy as a gemstone (ruby or sapphire). The atoms in corundum bond in hexagonal patterns, so well formed corundum crystals, like the one shown, have a hexagonal shape.
