DescriptionThis specimen, 11 cm across, contains red-orange hematite, alternating with layers of limonite and greenalite. Hematite is iron oxide, limonite is a genereic name given to a hydrated form of iron oxide, and greenalite is a hydrated iron silicate. This specimen is from the Upper Huronian, Biwabik Formation of Minnesota.
